Overview

The Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX occupies a practical middle ground between a pure analog mixer and a dedicated USB audio interface, combining both functions in a compact chassis built to the same standards as Allen & Heath's touring consoles. At its core are four GS-Pre XLR microphone preamps—derived from the acclaimed GS-R24 studio console—that deliver low noise, generous headroom, and clean gain suitable for everything from condenser microphones to dynamic stage mics. Two of the mono channels include HiZ inputs for plugging in guitars and instrument pickups directly, removing the need for external DI boxes. Each mono input also features a 100Hz high-pass filter for removing unwanted rumble, paired with a 3-band MusiQ EQ that uses musically tuned frequency centers for intuitive tone shaping.

The built-in effects engine offers 61 distinct effect types—including reverbs, delays, and modulation—with tap tempo for time-synchronized effects. These algorithms were developed in-house by Allen & Heath's DSP engineers and draw from the processing found in their flagship digital consoles, delivering a noticeable step up from typical compact mixer effects. On the recording side, the 96kHz 4x4 USB interface is class compliant, requiring no driver installation and supporting direct connection to computers, tablets, and smartphones. The USB routing is flexible enough to capture individual channels or the stereo mix, and it can also send audio back from a DAW for monitoring or to apply computer-based effects processing through the mixer's signal path.

Key Features

The compact ZED range of mixers feature the same high-level audio and build quality as A&H’s large format touring consoles, with separate internal channel boards, Neutrik connectors and every pot fixed to the chassis.

GS-Pre XLR microphone preamps, developed from those featured in the highly acclaimed GS-R24 studio console, these provide exceptionally low noise, massive headroom and plenty of clean gain for a full, warm sound that brings the best out of any microphone. Two HiZ connections also allow direct connection of high impedance sources such as electric, electro-acoustic or bass guitars and most clip or stick-on pickups for acoustic instruments, without the need for a separate DI box.

A 100Hz High Pass Filter on every mono input allows unneeded low frequencies to be removed, then the 3-band MusiQ EQ uses carefully selected frequencies to ensure your sound sculpting is always musical. Cut or boost high, mids and lows to get the tone you’re after without the fear of going wrong!

A built-in, studio quality multi-FX unit provides 61 different, tweakable FX types including reverbs, delays and modulation with tap tempo to keep everything in time. These are not your average compact mixer FX either, using algorithms developed entirely in-house by our DSP experts and derived from those found in our flagship digital consoles.

A built-in, high quality, 96kHz 4x4 USB interface makes it easy to capture or stream the whole mix or individual channels with ease. With options to route Aux and FX sends it can even be used to add FX and processing from a computer. It’s also class compliant and does not require drivers, meaning not just Mac and Windows computers can be connected, but also many mobile devices such as tablets or even smart phones.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • GS-Pre microphone preamps deliver exceptionally low noise and high headroom derived from Allen & Heath's GS-R24 studio console.
  • The 96kHz class-compliant USB interface works without drivers on Mac, Windows, and mobile devices.
  • 61 built-in studio-quality effects eliminate the need for outboard FX processors in many setups.
  • HiZ inputs accept guitars and pickups directly without requiring a separate DI box.
  • Durable build with Neutrik connectors and chassis-mounted pots matches the quality of larger-format Allen & Heath consoles.

👎 Cons

  • Only 4 mic/line inputs, which may be limiting for recording full bands or larger ensembles simultaneously.
  • The 3-band EQ lacks a sweepable mid frequency, reducing precision for detailed sound shaping.
  • At 4x4 USB channels, multi-track recording options are more constrained than dedicated multi-channel interfaces.
  • No motorized faders or digital recall, so settings must be manually noted and reproduced between sessions.
  • The built-in effects cannot be applied independently to separate channels via multiple FX buses.
