Behringer 1630 Bode Frequency Shifter Eurorack Module

The Behringer 1630 Bode Frequency Shifter is a 14HP Eurorack module that recreates the legendary Bode frequency shifter circuit originally developed in the 1970s. Unlike a pitch shifter, which transposes all frequencies by the same musical interval, a frequency shifter adds or subtracts a fixed Hz value across the entire spectrum. This non-uniform shifting breaks the harmonic series apart, producing distinctive metallic, bell-like, rotating, and phasing timbres that are impossible to achieve with other effects. The 1630 offers a shift range of +5kHz to -5kHz, covering everything from barely perceptible thickening at small shift values to dramatic, alien spectral transformations at the extremes.

The module provides switchable exponential and linear control modes that change how the shift parameter responds to manual adjustment and incoming CV. Linear mode delivers a uniform response that is well-suited to precise, repeatable shifts, while exponential mode offers finer resolution at low shift amounts and faster sweeps at higher values — more intuitive for live performance and expressive patching. The CV input allows external modulation of the shift frequency from LFOs, envelopes, sequencers, or any other control voltage source in your system, opening up evolving textures and rhythmic spectral movement. All connections use standard 3.5mm TS jacks, and the module draws power via a standard 12-pin Eurorack header.
