Behringer MDX2600 Expander Gate Compressor Limiter

The Behringer MDX2600 is a dual-channel dynamics processor that packs an expander/gate, compressor, de-esser, and peak limiter into a single rack-mountable unit. Designed for both studio recording and live sound reinforcement, it gives engineers comprehensive control over signal dynamics without requiring a rack full of separate outboard gear. The integrated de-esser with switchable male and female voice recognition is a particularly useful inclusion, allowing vocal sibilance to be tamed at the same stage as compression and gating. Attack and release times can be set manually for precise tailoring or switched to automatic mode for quick, reliable results in fast-paced mixing situations.

At the heart of the MDX2600's peak limiting section is Behringer's IGC (Interactive Gain Control) circuitry, which combines a clipper and program limiter to catch transient peaks transparently. This makes it a practical safeguard against clipping during recording or live broadcast. The switchable tube simulation adds another dimension, allowing users to introduce subtle harmonic warmth reminiscent of vintage tube processors. With stereo coupling for linked dual-channel operation and independent output level controls, the MDX2600 serves as a flexible tool for tracking vocals, processing stereo buses, or managing dynamics on live instrument channels.
