Frequently Asked Questions
How many stops of light reduction does this B+W ND 1.8 filter provide?
It provides 6 stops (ND 1.8 / ND 64) of light reduction, allowing you to use shutter speeds 64 times longer or apertures 6 stops wider than you could without the filter.
Does this filter introduce a color cast to images?
B+W's Master series ND filters are designed for neutral color rendition. The MRC nano coating also minimizes reflections that can contribute to color shifts, though very long exposures may show a slight warm cast as with most glass ND filters.
What does the MRC nano coating do?
MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) nano is a multi-layer coating that repels water, dirt, and fingerprints from the filter surface, making it easier to clean in the field and reducing ghosting and flare from reflected light.
Will this 49mm filter cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses?
The thin profile mount is rated good for lenses down to 17mm equivalent on full frame, so it should not vignette at standard wide-angle focal lengths. Extremely wide or ultra-wide lenses below 17mm may show corner shading.
How can I verify this is an authentic B+W filter?
Each filter includes a QR code on the packaging that you can scan to verify authenticity directly through B+W.
