Frequently Asked Questions
What wavelengths does the B+W 093 IR filter pass?
The 093 is an opaque infrared filter that blocks virtually all visible light and passes infrared wavelengths starting at approximately 830nm and above, making it suitable for deep infrared photography.
Can I see through the viewfinder with this filter attached?
No. The 093 appears completely black to the naked eye, blocking visible light entirely. You need to compose and focus your shot before attaching the filter, or use live view on a camera with IR-sensitive sensors.
Does this filter work with any camera, or does it require a modified camera?
It can work with unmodified cameras, but you will need significantly longer exposure times since the internal IR-cut filter in most cameras blocks much of the infrared light. A camera that has been converted for IR use will produce much stronger results with shorter exposures.
What is the knurled mount design for?
The black knurled edge provides a textured grip surface around the filter ring, making it easier to thread the filter on and off the lens — especially useful since you may be handling it frequently to compose shots before reattaching.
How can I verify that this filter is authentic?
B+W includes a QR code with the filter that you can scan to verify authenticity through their system.
