Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • Offers an ultra wide-angle 14mm focal length, ideal for expansive cinematic shots and large indoor spaces.
  • Features a fast T3.1 maximum aperture, allowing for excellent low-light performance and shallow depth of field.
  • Equipped with an 11-blade iris, which creates smooth and natural-looking bokeh for aesthetically pleasing out-of-focus areas.
  • Designed to minimize focus breathing, ensuring consistent framing throughout focus pulls in video production.
  • Features dual focus markings on both sides of the barrel, with angled rear markings for easy readability from various camera positions.

👎 Cons

  • The lens is a prime lens, meaning it has a fixed focal length and lacks the versatility of a zoom lens.
  • While compatible with a wide range of Canon EF-mount cameras, it is not universally compatible with other camera mounts.
  • The T3.1 maximum aperture, while fast, is not the absolute fastest available in cinema primes, which might be a consideration for extreme low-light scenarios.
  • Being an EF mount lens, it requires an adapter for mirrorless systems with different mounts, potentially adding bulk.
  • The focus ring has a 300-degree rotation, which might be slower for quick focus adjustments compared to shorter throws.
