Overview

The Cokin P122 is a graduated blue filter in the B1 density, designed for the Cokin P-Series square filter system. It applies a blue tint to the top portion of the frame that gradually transitions to clear, allowing photographers to selectively add color to skies while leaving the rest of the scene unaffected. This is particularly effective for enhancing dull, hazy, or washed-out skies in landscape photography, giving images a more dramatic or saturated look straight out of the camera. The hard-edge graduation makes it best suited for compositions with a distinct, straight horizon line where the transition between filtered and unfiltered areas can be aligned precisely.

Constructed from CR-39 optical resin, the P122 is lighter and more impact-resistant than glass alternatives, making it practical for outdoor use. The filter reduces light by up to 1 2/3 stops in the tinted area, which also helps balance exposure between a bright sky and a darker foreground. To use the P122, you need a Cokin P-Series filter holder and a lens adapter ring matching your lens thread size. The filter slides into the holder and can be repositioned vertically to align the graduation with the horizon in your composition.
