The Mackie Big Knob Passive is a desktop studio monitor controller that handles the fundamentals of monitoring without any active electronics. Its large central knob provides smooth, precise volume adjustment over a passive signal path, meaning it introduces no self-noise, requires no power supply, and adds no coloration to the audio passing through it. The 2x2 design lets users connect two audio sources and switch between two pairs of studio monitors, with dedicated mono, mute, and dim buttons for quick referencing checks during mixing. A 3.5mm auxiliary input on the front panel makes it simple to route audio from a phone or laptop for casual playback or mix comparison.

This bundle goes beyond the controller itself by including four Mophead 10-foot TRS cables, four cable ties, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and a copy of Waveform OEM DAW software. The cables alone cover the rear-panel connections needed to wire the controller into a typical two-monitor setup, which eliminates the common frustration of unboxing studio gear only to realize cables were not included. The Big Knob Passive is best suited for home studios, podcast setups, and small production rooms where clean signal routing and quick monitor control matter, but where the additional features of Mackie's powered Big Knob models — headphone amps, talkback, and expanded I/O — are not yet necessary.
