Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the glue-down installation method adheres to wood, tile, stone, concrete, and existing vinyl, provided the substrate is clean, flat, and dry. Above grade, on grade, and below grade applications are all supported, making it viable for basement installations where floating floor systems are often problematic due to moisture vapor transmission.
The 6-mil wear layer is the transparent top coating that protects the printed wood-grain design layer from abrasion, scratches, and staining. 6-mil is a standard residential-grade wear layer — adequate for household foot traffic and typical furniture drag. It is thinner than the 12-mil or 20-mil wear layers found on heavier commercial-grade vinyl, which is reflected in the warranty tiers: Limited Lifetime Residential, 10-Year Light Commercial, 5-Year Commercial.
The planks themselves do not include adhesive — pressure-sensitive adhesive for glue-down installation is a separate purchase. Standard pressure-sensitive adhesive for LVT/LVP is widely available at flooring and home improvement retailers.
At 2mm (0.08 inches), Katalina is among the thinner vinyl plank options available, which minimizes transitions to adjacent flooring and typically doesn't require undercutting door frames or casings the way thicker floating floors do. This is a practical installation advantage in renovations where existing door clearances are already tight.
MSI does not list radiant heating compatibility in the product specifications for the Katalina line. Vinyl planks in general have varying tolerances for sub-floor temperature, and glue-down adhesive compatibility with heated substrates varies by adhesive type. Consult MSI's technical documentation or the adhesive manufacturer's specs before installing over radiant heat.
