Overview

The Neewer ND16 Neutral Density Filter is purpose-built for DJI Phantom 4 and Phantom 3 Professional/Advanced drones, addressing one of the most common challenges in aerial videography: controlling exposure in bright conditions. By reducing the amount of light reaching the camera sensor by 4 stops, the ND16 allows pilots to lower their shutter speed to follow the 180-degree shutter rule — setting shutter speed at twice the frame rate — which produces the smooth, natural motion blur that distinguishes cinematic footage from harsh, jittery handheld-look video.

Constructed from high-definition glass, the filter maintains the optical quality of the Phantom's camera system without introducing softness, color shifts, or vignetting. At just 3.1 grams, it adds virtually no weight to the gimbal assembly, preserving the drone's stabilization performance and flight characteristics. The filter attaches directly to the Phantom's camera housing for quick installation before flight. It's an essential accessory for daytime aerial shoots where the drone's fixed aperture would otherwise force shutter speeds too high for smooth video. Note that compatibility is limited to the Phantom 4 and Phantom 3 Advanced/Professional — the Phantom 3 Standard uses a different camera housing and is not supported.

Key Features

For DJI Phantom 4, DJI Phantom 3 Professional & Advanced. Not for DJI Phantom 3 Standard.

Made of lightweight high definition glass. Aluminum thread designed, durable and easily-installed.

Effectively reduces the amount of light coming into the sensor without affecting the color.

Allows wider apertures and longer exposure time and helps to avoid overexposed photos.

NOTE: 1.ONLY WHEN the original filter that comes attached to the DJI Phantom Camera is removed, CAN this filter be mounted. 2.ONLY Filter, DJI Phantom 3 NOT Included.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • High-definition glass construction maintains image sharpness and color accuracy
  • Extremely lightweight at 3.1g so it won't affect gimbal balance or flight stability
  • 4-stop light reduction enables cinematic shutter speeds in bright outdoor conditions
  • Designed to snap directly onto Phantom 4 and Phantom 3 Pro/Advanced cameras without adapters

👎 Cons

  • Not compatible with the DJI Phantom 3 Standard despite similar appearance
  • Single ND16 density may be too strong in overcast conditions or too weak at midday sun

  • Only fits DJI Phantom 3 and 4 series, which are older discontinued drone models

Frequently Asked Questions

It fits the DJI Phantom 4, Phantom 3 Professional, and Phantom 3 Advanced. It is NOT compatible with the DJI Phantom 3 Standard.
An ND16 filter reduces the light entering the camera by 4 stops, allowing you to use slower shutter speeds in bright conditions for smoother, more cinematic video with natural motion blur.
At just 0.11 oz (3.1g), the filter adds negligible weight and will not noticeably affect the Phantom's flight characteristics or gimbal performance.
It is constructed from high-definition glass for optical clarity and consistent light reduction across the frame.
ND16 is well-suited for bright daylight conditions, allowing you to follow the 180-degree shutter rule (shutter speed at double your frame rate) which produces natural-looking motion blur in aerial video.
