Overview
Key Features
【5 Stops Variable ND Filter】 The NEEWER ND8–ND128 Variable Filter is adjustable from 3 to 7 stops, with a rotating ring to reduce light intake and extend exposure time when shooting at slower shutter speeds and wider apertures. Perfect for capturing rivers, waterfalls, light trails and other moving subjects with dynamic motion blur.
【Without Black "X" Cross】 The rotation range is limited to approximately 70°, and advanced cutting-edge technology lets you say goodbye to the "X" cross mark on images and other common problems with variable ND filters for wide-angle and telephoto lenses.
【Double-sided Multi-layered Nano-Coatings】 With 30 layers of Nano coating, the minimum light reflection rate is less than 0.1%, which reduces glare and ghosting, and also blocks UV rays from 300 to 380nm, while ensuring accurate color reproduction. Waterproof, oil-proof, dirt-proof and scratch-proof.
【High-end Materials and Design】 Imported Japanese AGC 4-element HD optical glass ensures optimal neutrality and accurate color contrast and reproduction. Ultra-slim CNC non-slip aviation aluminum frame prevents wide-angle vignetting and ensures durability and anti-snagging.
【NOTE】 This filter is compatible with all ø55mm lenses. Vignetting may occur with telephoto lenses, which is a normal situation. For this 55mm ND filter, the lens cap/hood should be 58mm.

Pros & Cons
👍 Pros
- The 3-to-7 stop range covers the most commonly needed ND strengths for both long-exposure landscapes and wide-aperture shooting in bright conditions, replacing multiple fixed filters
- The 30-layer nano coating delivers minimal flare and ghosting, keeping contrast high even when shooting toward harsh light sources near the edge of the frame
- The ultra-slim CNC aluminum frame sits low enough to avoid vignetting on most standard and moderate wide-angle focal lengths, keeping corners clean
- Waterproof and oil-resistant coatings make cleaning quick in the field — a single wipe removes water droplets and fingerprints without smearing
- Japanese AGC optical glass maintains accurate color rendition across most of the rotation range, requiring minimal white balance correction in post
👎 Cons
- At the maximum 7-stop setting, a slight warm color cast becomes noticeable and requires correction in post-processing, particularly visible in blue skies and neutral gray tones
- The 55mm thread size requires stepping up to a 58mm lens cap, which means carrying an extra cap or adapter if you frequently remove the filter in the field
- Variable ND filters inherently cannot match the optical consistency of a single-density fixed ND, so critical work at specific stop values may still benefit from dedicated fixed filters
- The rotation ring markings are small and can be difficult to read precisely in bright outdoor light, making it harder to dial in an exact stop value by sight alone
- Vignetting can appear at extreme telephoto focal lengths, limiting its versatility if you use it on a wide-range zoom
