Proving that speed and resolution can indeed coexist, the Nikon D850 is a multimedia DSLR that brings together robust stills capabilities along with apt movie and time-lapse recording. Revolving around a newly designed 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor and proven EXPEED 5 image processor, the D850 is clearly distinguished by its high resolution for recording detailed imagery.
The back-illuminated design of the sensor is able to acquire greater detail and clarity when working in low-light conditions, and the sensor also forgoes an optical low-pass filter for improved sharpness. Working in conjunction with the sensor is the EXPEED 5 image processor, which together afford a 7 fps continuous shooting rate for up to 51 consecutive frames, an expandable sensitivity range from ISO 32 to 102400, and 4K UHD video recording.
A first for Nikon DSLRs, a 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor is used for high-resolution shooting, impressive low-light quality, and fast readout speeds to benefit continuous shooting, movies, and time-lapse recording. The back-illuminated design of the sensor affords noticeably cleaner high-sensitivity output for reduced noise when working at high ISO values, up to a native ISO 25600, as well as vivid and smooth quality at sensitivities as low as ISO 64.

Pros & Cons
👍 Pros
- At 45.7MP with no optical low-pass filter, landscape and architecture shots hold extraordinary edge-to-edge detail that survives aggressive cropping.
- The BSI sensor's native ISO 64 base produces files with dynamic range so wide you can recover deep shadows and blown highlights in a single RAW frame.
- 7 fps with full AE/AF makes it credible for moderate sports and event work despite its resolution class — a genuinely rare combination.
- The tilting 3.2-inch touchscreen is a practical asset for low-angle shots, video framing, and quick menu navigation without hunting through buttons.
- The bundle's included accessories — bag, memory card, tripod, and Corel software suite — mean you can shoot and process from the moment it arrives.
👎 Cons
- The body alone is substantial; a full-frame zoom attached means carrying noticeable weight across a long wedding or event day.
- The primary XQD card slot delivers the best burst performance, but XQD cards are an additional investment not covered by the bundled SD card.
- 4K video AF relies on contrast-detect, which hunts noticeably in low light — videographers shooting run-and-gun will feel this limitation quickly.
- The 45.7MP RAW files are large (roughly 50–80MB each), which means storage and culling time are real workflow considerations at volume.
