The Philips 27449-8 is a 400-watt metal halide high-intensity discharge lamp designed for demanding industrial, commercial, and outdoor lighting environments. Producing 25,350 lumens at a color temperature of 3900 Kelvin, it delivers a bright, neutral white light that provides excellent visibility across large areas such as warehouses, manufacturing floors, parking structures, and retail spaces. The ED37 bulb shape with clear glass finish and E39 mogul screw base ensures broad compatibility with standard enclosed HID luminaires.

With a rated average life of 20,000 hours, the 27449-8 is built for installations where reliability and long maintenance intervals are priorities. The 3900K output offers a slight warmth compared to daylight-rated metal halide lamps while still maintaining a clean, white appearance. Its CRI of 65 is appropriate for general-purpose area lighting, though it is not recommended for applications requiring high color fidelity such as retail display or inspection tasks. As with all metal halide lamps, a compatible ballast is required and the lamp needs several minutes to reach full output after ignition. The lamp operates at 135 volts and must be used in enclosed fixtures to contain the outer envelope in the unlikely event of a non-passive failure.
