Overview

The Shure GLXD+FMZ3 is a dedicated frequency manager built to bring automated RF coordination to multi-channel GLX-D+ Dual Band wireless installations. In setups with multiple wireless microphone and bodypack channels operating simultaneously, RF interference and frequency conflicts can cause dropouts and degraded audio quality. The FMZ3 addresses this by continuously scanning both the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands, identifying the cleanest available channels, and automatically assigning them across connected GLX-D+ rack receivers — all without user intervention during a live event.

A single FMZ3 unit manages up to 6 wireless channels. For larger deployments, units can be daisy-chained — up to 3 frequency managers working together to coordinate as many as 16 channels across the dual-band spectrum. This scalability makes the FMZ3 well suited for houses of worship, performance venues, conference facilities, and other environments where multiple presenters or performers need simultaneous wireless coverage. Because the GLX-D+ system operates entirely in license-free frequency bands, the FMZ3 simplifies not only the technical setup but also the regulatory side of wireless audio, eliminating the need for frequency coordination filings or operational licenses regardless of venue location.

Key Features

NEW, IMPROVED PERFORMANCE - GLX-D+ Dual Band Digital Wireless offers new features previously unavailable in the first generation of GLX-D Wireless: operation in both 2.4 and 5.8GHz, improved battery life, and multiple receiver options.

EXCEPTIONAL, DIGITAL WIRELESS AUDIO - Always come through clear and captivate the audience with superior, transparent audio. GLX-D+ Dual Band intelligently avoids interference to give you total, reliable wireless freedom.

NEW DUAL BAND WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY - provides reliable and consistent signal by automatically scanning both 2.4 and 5.8GHz bands and selecting the cleanest channel. More than double the bandwidth ensures that dropouts won't stop the show.

EASY, WORRY-FREE SETUP & MANAGEMENT - Transmitters and receivers pair up automatically making setup as simple as possible. Smart frequency management continuously monitors the spectrum and moves to a clean channel in case any interference appears.

SMART RECHARGEABILITY - Up to 12 hours of runtime. The new SB904 battery can be charged directly on the receiver or via included USB-C connector on the handheld microphone or bodypack. Quick charge allows for 1.5 hours of use from a 15 minutes of charge.

RF PERFORMANCE FOR MULTIPLE SYSTEM INSTALLATIONS - GLX-D+ Dual Band provides improved RF performance, antenna distribution and automatic frequency management for up to 16 half-rack systems. Frequency Manager (GLXD+ FM) required (sold separately).

LICENSE-FREE FREQUENCY RANGE - allows you to travel without worrying about licenses, frequency coordination and other technical hurdles.

MULTIPLE SETUP OPTIONS - Available in rack-mount, tabletop and guitar pedal receiver options with a wide selection of lavalier, headset and handheld microphone choices - including the legendary SM58. Not Backwards Compatible with GLX-D or GLX-D Advanced.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • Automatic dual-band frequency coordination across 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz eliminates manual channel management.
  • Daisy-chain capability scales from 6 to 16 channels for larger installations.
  • Continuous spectrum monitoring and automatic channel switching helps prevent dropouts during live use.
  • License-free frequency bands simplify deployment across different venues and regions.

👎 Cons

  • Only compatible with GLX-D+ Dual Band receivers — cannot manage original GLX-D or other Shure wireless lines.
  • Does not include any receivers, transmitters, or microphones, adding to total system cost.
  • Maximum channel count of 16 may be limiting for very large productions requiring more simultaneous wireless links.
  • Requires GLX-D+ rack receivers specifically — tabletop and pedal receiver formats are not supported by this frequency manager.

Frequently Asked Questions

A single GLXD+FMZ3 can manage up to 6 channels on its own. By daisy-chaining up to 3 units, you can manage up to 16 channels (or 11 maximum via 2 frequency manager cascades).
No, the GLXD+FMZ3 is designed exclusively for GLX-D+ Dual Band systems. It is not backwards compatible with first-generation GLX-D or GLX-D Advanced equipment.
It continuously monitors the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz spectrum and automatically coordinates clean frequencies across all connected GLX-D+ rack receivers. If interference is detected, it moves affected channels to cleaner frequencies without interrupting the audio signal.
No, the GLX-D+ system operates in the license-free 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency bands, so no frequency licenses or coordination filings are needed.
No, the GLXD+FMZ3 is a frequency manager only. It ships with the frequency manager unit and a user guide. Receivers, transmitters, and microphones are sold separately.
