The Shure VP89L is the long-capsule variant of Shure's VP89 modular shotgun microphone system, engineered for professional media production where capturing clean audio from a distance is essential. Its tight polar pattern provides strong off-axis rejection, making it well-suited for sporting events, outdoor film shoots, wildlife recording, and any scenario where the microphone cannot be positioned close to the sound source. The updated preamplifier design incorporates RF immunity, an increasingly important feature on modern sets and broadcast locations crowded with wireless transmitters, IFB systems, and mobile devices.

The VP89 system's standout feature is its modular architecture.
