Overview

The Sirui AM-SHS is built for the operator who needs a dependable second point of contact on a cage rig — whether that's a documentary shooter keeping a mirrorless camera steady through hours of interviews, or a narrative operator balancing a heavier cinema build during a long walking shot. Its dual mounting standard (ARRI locating pin or 18mm dual-1/4") means it integrates cleanly into most professional cage ecosystems without the guesswork of adapters, and the side-mounted expansion ports mean accessories that would otherwise crowd the cage top plate have somewhere to live.

Construction splits intelligently between aluminum alloy at the load-bearing joints and high-strength plastic at the central body — a deliberate weight trade-off that keeps the handle light without sacrificing the rigidity that matters when your rig is fully loaded. The textured silicone grip is the part you'll notice most across a shooting day: it's firm without being abrasive, and it doesn't get slick under pressure. The included magnetic hex wrench is a small but genuinely useful touch — it stows against the handle body so it's always there when you need to reverse the mount or reposition the height.

Key Features

Locating Mount for ARRI&Dual Screws Mount Optional : This SIRUI side handle AM-SHS is compatible with camera cages or plates featuring a 3/8"-16 locating hole for ARRI or two 1/4"-20 threaded holes (18mm apart). This facilitates camera mobility and ensures stability for dual-handed shooting

Lightweight and Durable Design: The side handle is primarily constructed from high-strength aluminum alloy and plastic. While the central portion of the main body is made from high-strength plastic to reduce overall weight, the remaining parts are crafted from aluminum alloy to enhance durability and fracture resistance. Despite its lightweight, the design ensures strong load-bearing capacity. Please note: Load-bearing capacity is 33lbs/15kg MAX

Suitable for Left/Right-Handed Use: Adjustable in height to accommodate different cage heights, and supports quick switching between left and right hands with a built-in wrench. If you want to use the handle grip on the other side of the cage, simply remove the handle's connecting part to change the direction. Additionally, you can slide it up and down for flexible positioning

Comfortable Hand Grip: The side handle features a textured silicone surface in contact with the hand, ergonomic designed. Not only does it provide a non-slip and sweat-resistant grip, but it also conforms perfectly to the hand. This offers a smooth and comfortable shooting experience

Multiple Mounting Points: The side handle incorporates numerous practical expansion interfaces in its design. On both sides, there are wrist strap holes, and on the top, there is a 3/8"-16 locating threaded hole for ARRI, a 1/4"-20 threaded hole, and a cold shoe. These reserved holes allow you to further expand your equipment as needed. It comes with a magnetic hex wrench for convenience

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • The ARRI locating pin plus dual 1/4" compatibility means it drops onto almost any professional cage without adapters.
  • Cold shoe and dual threaded ports on top let you extend the rig with a light or monitor directly off the handle, keeping the build compact.
  • Textured silicone grip stays secure during sweaty run-and-gun sessions and long documentary handheld stretches.
  • Left/right reversibility means it works equally well for operators of either hand dominance without buying a second handle.
  • Aluminum alloy construction at the structural joints keeps the handle rigid under load while the plastic midsection trims unnecessary weight.

👎 Cons

  • The plastic midsection, while weight-saving, may not inspire the same confidence as an all-metal handle when the rig is at or near the 33 lb weight limit.
  • Height adjustment requires loosening and repositioning manually — there's no quick-release lever for fast changes between operators on a shared rig.
  • The cold shoe sits on top of the handle, which puts accessories slightly off-axis and may require an angled adapter for certain monitor arms.
  • No built-in cable management channels, so HDMI or power cables to top-mounted accessories will need separate clamps or ties.

Frequently Asked Questions

It works with two distinct configurations — a 3/8"-16 ARRI locating hole or dual 1/4"-20 threaded holes spaced 18mm apart. If your cage has either of those patterns, you're good to go. Check your cage spec sheet before ordering.
Yes, and it's designed to be done quickly. Remove the connecting part of the handle, flip the orientation, and reattach. A magnetic hex wrench is included so you're not hunting for tools mid-shoot.
The handle slides up and down along the mount, accommodating different cage geometries. It's not a fixed position, so you can dial in the height that keeps your wrist in a neutral, fatigue-free position for long handheld runs.
The top of the handle has a 3/8"-16 ARRI locating hole, a 1/4"-20 thread, and a cold shoe — giving you attachment points for a monitor, on-camera light, or microphone without routing cables back to the cage body.
The AM-SHS is rated to 33 lbs / 15 kg. That covers most mirrorless and cinema camera builds with a lens, matte box, and follow focus attached — but weigh your full rig before relying on it at the limit.
