The Sony Alpha 7 III pairs a back-illuminated 24.2-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor with the BIONZ X image processor to deliver impressive image quality across a wide sensitivity range. The ISO extends from 100 to 51,200 as standard, with expansion down to ISO 50 and up to 204,800 for challenging lighting conditions. With 15 stops of dynamic range and 14-bit uncompressed RAW output, the camera gives photographers significant latitude in post-processing. Its hybrid autofocus system combines 693 phase-detection points with 425 contrast-detection points, covering 93% of the image area and locking on in as little as 0.02 seconds. Real-Time Tracking and Eye AF for both humans and animals make it particularly capable for portraiture and wildlife photography.

On the video side, the Alpha 7 III records 4K UHD footage using full-pixel readout without pixel binning, resulting in sharp, detailed video with minimal moiré.
