Overview

The Yamaha APXT2EW is the exotic-wood edition of Yamaha's popular APX Travel series, shrinking a full-size acoustic-electric into a 3/4-scale instrument that fits comfortably in overhead bins, backseats, and tight practice spaces. Despite its reduced dimensions, the guitar benefits from Yamaha's decades of acoustic engineering — the figured exotic wood top paired with meranti back and sides delivers a balanced, warm tone that sounds far more substantial than its size suggests. The rosewood fingerboard and bridge add smooth playability and sustain, making it a genuinely enjoyable instrument rather than a mere novelty.

Where the APXT2EW truly earns its keep is versatility. The onboard System 68 preamp and piezo undersaddle pickup let you plug directly into an amplifier, mixer, or audio interface, so the guitar transitions seamlessly from quiet practice to amplified performance. At roughly three-quarters the size and weight of a standard acoustic, it is an appealing option for traveling musicians, students, and anyone who wants a grab-and-go guitar that can hold its own both unplugged and on stage.

Yes, Yamaha includes a matching gig bag with the guitar for convenient transport and basic protection.
It can work for smaller acoustic gigs and practice sessions thanks to its onboard preamp, though its compact body produces less acoustic volume than a full-size dreadnought.
