Overview

The Yamaha Montage6 represents the top of Yamaha's synthesizer workstation lineup, combining two distinct sound engines into a single performance instrument. The AWM2 engine draws on Yamaha's extensive sample library for realistic acoustic instruments, pads, and textures, while the FM-X engine — an evolution of the legendary DX7's FM synthesis — delivers everything from classic electric pianos to complex evolving timbres. What sets the Montage apart from conventional workstations is Motion Control Synthesis, which lets you blend and morph between these engines in real time using the Super Knob, a large central controller that can simultaneously adjust multiple parameters across both engines with a single gesture.

On the hardware side, the Montage6 is built for hands-on control. Eight assignable rotary encoders and eight faders, each with step-ladder LED feedback, provide immediate tactile access to key parameters without diving into menus. The 32-channel audio output (16 stereo pairs) and 6-channel input give the Montage6 professional studio-grade connectivity, and the Pure Analog Circuit output stage is designed to deliver clean, low-noise audio to your monitors or front-of-house system. With a 44.1 kHz sampling rate and Yamaha's decades of synthesis expertise behind it, the Montage6 is an instrument aimed at professionals who need a deep, expressive sound palette and the physical controls to shape it on stage or in the studio.

Key Features

The Motion Control Synthesis Engine unifies and controls two iconic Sound Engines: AWM2 (high-quality waveform and synthesis) and FM-X (modern, pure Frequency Modulation synthesis.)

Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, completely customizable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sound.

Montage features professional, stereo balanced outputs with “Pure Analog Circuit” digital to analog conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Motion Control Synthesis is Yamaha's engine that merges two sound sources — AWM2 (sample-based) and FM-X (frequency modulation) — and allows you to dynamically blend, morph, and modulate them in real time using the Super Knob and Motion Sequences.
Motion Sequences are programmable, tempo-synced control patterns that automatically modulate sound parameters over time. They add rhythmic movement and evolving textures to your patches without manual knob-turning during performance.
The Montage6 provides 32 output channels (16 stereo pairs), giving you extensive routing flexibility for live performance or multi-track studio recording.
The 61-key version features a semi-weighted synth-action keybed with aftertouch, designed for fast playing and synthesizer performance rather than piano-style weighted action.
Pure Analog Circuit is Yamaha's dedicated analog output stage designed to preserve audio fidelity by minimizing noise and distortion in the signal path from the digital engine to the physical outputs.
