Korg MONOTRONDUO Analog Ribbon Synthesizer

The Korg Monotron DUO is a pocket-sized analog synthesizer built around two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) and a voltage-controlled filter (VCF). Despite its miniature form factor, it delivers authentic analog synthesis with a feature set that invites serious sound exploration. The defining feature is its X-Mod (cross-modulation) capability, which allows VCO2 to modulate VCO1's frequency. This interaction generates harmonically rich, complex timbres ranging from thick detuned drones to chaotic, aggressive textures — sounds that are genuinely difficult to replicate with digital synthesis.

Control is handled through dedicated knobs for VCO1 Pitch, VCO2 Pitch, X-Mod Intensity, VCF Cutoff, and VCF Peak (resonance), along with a ribbon controller that serves as the keyboard. The 1/8-inch aux input is a standout feature, allowing you to route external audio — from a phone, another synth, or a drum machine — through the Monotron DUO's analog filter for real-time sound shaping.
