Does the MP600 Elite require a PCIe Gen4 slot, or will it work in a Gen3 system?
The drive is backward compatible with PCIe Gen3 x4 slots, but maximum sequential speeds will be limited to approximately 3,500MB/s read — roughly half the rated Gen4 performance. For full 7,000MB/s throughput, a Gen4-capable motherboard and CPU platform (AMD Ryzen 5000/7000 series or Intel 12th Gen and later) is required.
What does 1,200TBW endurance mean for day-to-day use?
TBW (Terabytes Written) is the manufacturer's rated write endurance. At 1,200TBW for a 2TB drive, a user writing 200GB per day would reach rated endurance in approximately 16 years. For typical gaming or content creation workloads, the endurance rating is effectively a non-issue over the practical life of the drive.
Does the MP600 Elite include a heatsink, and does it need one?
The drive does not include a heatsink in the standard variant. At sustained Gen4 speeds, NVMe controllers generate significant heat — sustained sequential workloads on air-cooled systems without a heatsink can trigger thermal throttling. Using the motherboard's M.2 heatsink or an aftermarket cooler is recommended for extended write sessions.
Is the 3D TLC NAND a performance trade-off compared to MLC drives?
TLC NAND uses three bits per cell versus two for MLC, which is a density advantage — more storage per die, lower cost per GB. The MP600 Elite mitigates TLC write performance limitations through SLC write caching, meaning burst writes are fast. Sustained sequential writes at 6,500MB/s are competitive; only ultra-long continuous write operations that exhaust the SLC cache will reveal the underlying TLC write speed.
What form factor and interface does this drive use?
M.2 2280 form factor with PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe 1.4 interface. It is compatible with any M.2 slot that supports NVMe — SATA-only M.2 slots will not work with this drive.
