Does this camera capture color or only black-and-white images?
Only black-and-white. The monochrome sensor deliberately omits the color filter array to boost contrast, reduce noise, and improve low-light sensitivity for inspection and machine-vision work.
How does it reach 640fps and what is the tradeoff?
Frame rate scales inversely with resolution. You get 1280 x 800 at 120fps, 640 x 480 at 210fps, 320 x 240 at 420fps, and 160 x 120 at 640fps, so top speed means a smaller frame.
What does the global shutter actually do for me?
It exposes the entire frame at the same instant instead of line by line, eliminating the rolling-shutter skew and smear that distort fast-moving objects in high-speed imaging.
