Overview

The HP J9773A 2530-24G-PoE+ Switch is a managed Layer 2 switch built for business networks that rely on Power over Ethernet. With 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports that all support PoE+, it can deliver both data and electrical power to devices such as wireless access points, IP security cameras, VoIP phones, and other PoE-compatible hardware — reducing cable clutter and eliminating the need for individual power supplies at each device location. Four additional expansion slots offer uplink flexibility for connecting to a core switch or fiber backbone.

On the management side, the 2530-24G-PoE+ provides the features you would expect from an enterprise-grade Layer 2 switch: VLAN support, traffic prioritization (QoS), access control lists for security, and IPv6 host support. It can be managed through a web interface, CLI, or SNMP, and it supports HP's Intelligent Management Center for centralized multi-switch administration. The switch can be rack-mounted in a standard 19-inch rack, set on a desktop, or wall-mounted, making it adaptable to server rooms, wiring closets, or open office deployments alike.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • PoE+ on all 24 ports eliminates the need for separate power adapters on connected devices like access points and IP cameras
  • Full Layer 2 managed feature set including VLANs, traffic prioritization, and access security
  • Flexible mounting options — desktop, rack, or wall — suit a variety of installation environments
  • 4 expansion slots provide uplink flexibility, including potential SFP fiber connections

👎 Cons

  • Layer 2 only, so a separate router or Layer 3 switch is still needed for inter-VLAN routing
  • Total PoE budget may limit how many high-power devices can be connected simultaneously at full draw
  • Fan noise may be noticeable in quiet office environments typical of a 24-port PoE switch
  • No 10-Gigabit uplink ports, which could become a bottleneck in high-throughput environments
