The HP J9536A is a 20-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ expansion module with two additional SFP+ slots, designed for HP's zl-series modular switch chassis. Each of the 20 RJ-45 ports delivers 1 Gbps connectivity with Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) capability, making it well-suited for deployments that include wireless access points, IP phones, security cameras, and other PoE-powered devices. The two SFP+ expansion slots support 10 Gigabit transceivers, providing high-speed uplink options for connecting to the network core or other switches.

As a zl-series module, the J9536A is built for HP's modular switching platforms such as the 5400 and 8200 series chassis. This modular approach allows network administrators to scale port counts and PoE capacity incrementally as needs grow. The key planning consideration is the chassis power supply — PoE+ can deliver up to 30 watts per port under IEEE 802.3at, so powering all 20 ports at full capacity requires a sufficiently provisioned power supply in the host chassis.
