Overview

The Intel Core i5-14500 is a 14th generation desktop processor built on Intel's performance hybrid architecture, combining six Performance-cores (P-cores) with eight Efficient-cores (E-cores) for a total of 14 cores and 20 threads. This design allows the processor to intelligently route demanding tasks to the high-performance P-cores while offloading background and lighter tasks to the efficiency-focused E-cores, resulting in responsive multitasking and smooth performance across a range of workloads including gaming, photo and video editing, and everyday productivity.

With a maximum turbo frequency of up to 5.0 GHz and 20MB of cache, the i5-14500 delivers competitive single-threaded and multi-threaded performance in its class. It supports both PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 for high-speed storage and graphics connectivity, and offers the flexibility of DDR4 or DDR5 memory support depending on your motherboard. Compatible with Intel 700-series chipset motherboards out of the box and 600-series boards with a BIOS update, it fits into a wide range of existing and new builds. The included Intel Laminar RM1 cooler provides a ready-to-use thermal solution at a 65W base power rating.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • 14 cores and 20 threads provide strong multitasking performance for productivity and gaming
  • Hybrid architecture with P-cores and E-cores efficiently balances power and efficiency across workloads
  • Support for both DDR4 and DDR5 gives flexibility when choosing a motherboard and memory platform
  • Included Intel Laminar RM1 cooler eliminates the need for a separate cooler purchase
  • PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 support ensures compatibility with the latest storage and graphics hardware

👎 Cons

  • 65W base power can increase significantly under sustained boost loads, requiring adequate cooling
  • Lacks integrated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, requiring a separate adapter or motherboard with built-in wireless
  • 600-series motherboard compatibility may require a BIOS update that needs an older CPU to apply
  • No integrated high-end graphics, so a discrete GPU is necessary for gaming and heavy visual workloads

Frequently Asked Questions

The i5-14500 uses the LGA 1700 socket and is compatible with Intel 700-series chipset motherboards, as well as 600-series boards with a potential BIOS update.
Yes, it includes the Intel Laminar RM1 cooler in the box, so you do not need to purchase a separate cooling solution for standard use.
