Overview

The Monoprice 108796 MOLEX to Dual SATA Power Cable is a simple adapter designed for PC builders who need additional SATA power connections without upgrading their power supply. It takes a standard 4-pin MOLEX connector — the kind found on virtually every ATX PSU — and splits it into two 15-pin SATA II female outputs, each delivering both the 5VDC and 12VDC rails that SATA drives require. The 90-degree angle on the SATA connectors is a practical touch, allowing the plugs to sit flush against drive enclosures rather than protruding straight out.

At just 0.67 feet in length, this cable is best suited for builds where drives are mounted relatively close to an available MOLEX run. It works well for adding an extra SSD or HDD to a system that has run out of native SATA power connectors, or for older power supplies that have plenty of MOLEX but few SATA outputs. Keep in mind this is a power-only adapter — you will still need separate SATA data cables to connect each drive to your motherboard.

Key Features

Buy with Confidence: With Monoprice's Lifetime Warranty on all Cables, you can rest assured we stand behind our products and our customers.

This 8 adapter cable plugs into a 4-pin Molex power plug and provides two 15-pin SATA 90-degree power connectors.

Each SATA connector is at the end of its own 8 lead, so they can be connected to drives further than 8 apart, so long as the each drive is not further than about 8 from the Molex connector.

Warning! The Molex connector provides only 5 and 12 VDC power. While many SATA drives only require these power levels, some require the additional 3.3 VDC power provided for in the SATA specification.

Make sure your drive does not require 3.3 VDC before purchasing this adapter cable.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • Converts a single MOLEX connector into two SATA power outputs, reducing cable clutter
  • 90-degree SATA connectors fit neatly in tight drive bays and compact cases
  • Supplies both 5V and 12V rails to each SATA connection
  • Simple plug-and-play installation with no tools required
  • Affordable way to add SATA power without replacing your PSU

👎 Cons

  • At 0.67 feet, the short cable length limits placement options for drives far from the MOLEX source
  • Does not carry any data signal — a separate SATA data cable is still required for each drive
  • MOLEX connectors can be difficult to disconnect once seated, risking pin damage
  • No latching mechanism on the SATA ends, so connectors may work loose under vibration

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it splits a single MOLEX connection into two independent SATA power outputs, each supplying both 5V and 12V.
The cable length is 0.67 feet (approximately 8 inches), so it works best for drives mounted close to the power supply or near existing MOLEX runs.
Yes, the 90-degree angle on the SATA connectors reduces clearance needed behind drives, making them well-suited for tight enclosures and cramped drive bays.
