Can I edit video directly from this drive, or is it just for transfer?
Direct editing is the design intent. At 1050MB/s sequential read, it handles 4K ProRes HQ and multi-stream 1080p without buffering. For 8K RAW workflows with heavy codecs, an internal NVMe will still outperform it — but for location work, it's a practical substitute.
Does the aluminum body actually help with sustained performance?
Yes. The forged aluminum housing acts as a passive heatsink for the NVMe controller. During sustained writes, this dissipates heat that would otherwise trigger thermal throttling — which is a real problem on sealed plastic drives of this class.
What does the IP55 rating mean in practice?
IP55 means it resists low-pressure water jets and significant dust ingress. It can handle rain and dusty environments, but is not submersion-rated — don't confuse it with IP68 waterproof drives. The silicone bumper adds drop resistance, though no official drop rating is published.
