Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Camera Battery

The Sony NP-FW50 is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery designed as the official power source for Sony's Alpha series mirrorless cameras. With a capacity of 1020mAh and a mean output of 7.2V, it delivers 7.3Wh of energy per charge—enough for a typical day of casual shooting, though heavy video recording or extended sessions may call for a spare. As a genuine Sony accessory, the NP-FW50 is engineered to communicate directly with compatible camera bodies, providing faster and more accurate remaining charge indications than most third-party batteries can offer.

The battery accepts a maximum charge voltage of DC 8.4V and a maximum charge current of 1.02A, supporting reasonably fast recharge cycles when paired with a compatible charger. Its compact, lightweight form factor is consistent with the portable design philosophy of Sony's Alpha mirrorless lineup. For photographers who shoot regularly with cameras like the a6000 series or the original a7 generation, keeping one or two NP-FW50 batteries in the bag remains a practical and reliable power strategy.
