Overview

Most M.2 enclosures are built around the 2280 drives that dominate desktop builds. The Thermalright HR-EP101 C goes the other way, accepting only 2230 and 2242 sticks, and that narrower focus is exactly the point. Handheld gaming PCs, ultrabooks, and compact laptops all use short drives, and upgrading one leaves a perfectly good SSD with nowhere to go. This enclosure is the destination. At 70 x 34 x 11.5mm it is small enough to disappear into a jacket pocket, and the 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface means the resulting drive is fast enough to work from directly rather than just store on.

Construction is aluminum alloy, CNC-machined to a 2.7mm wall thickness with polished edges and an anti-slip design. Assembly is handled with the included screwdriver, screws, and thermal silicone pads, so the enclosure arrives as a complete kit rather than a shell that needs supplementing. Thermalright specifies a professional-grade main controller with broad protocol compatibility, and the feature set backs that up: UASP for faster transfers, TRIM for drive longevity, and S.M.A.R.T. for health reporting. Sustained reads are quoted above 1000 MB/s. Host support is wide, spanning Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with no drivers to install. The bundled cable is USB-C to USB-C, which suits modern hardware but means USB-A machines need an adapter.

Key Features

[10Gbps Extreme Speed] Supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface with transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. Perfectly compatible with M.2 NVMe (PCIe) protocol SSDs. Plug-and-play with computers, tablets, smartphones, projectors, and cameras.

Compatible devices include desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, projectors, cameras, set-top boxes, etc. with a Type-C interface. Includes a 10Gbps C-to-C cable. Whether connecting to a computer for file backup or to a PS5/Xbox for an external game library, it is quickly recognized.

[Supports M.2 NVMe Protocol Drives] Compatible with M Key and B&M Key M.2 SSD interfaces (SSD sizes: 2230/2242), supporting SSDs up to 2TB. Meets the needs of daily use and office work—multiple applications with one device, offering great value. (Not compatible with B Key interface.)

[Compact & Portable] SSD enclosure dimensions: 70 x 34 x 11.5mm. Features a 2.7mm thick aluminum alloy CNC-machined housing with finely polished edges and an anti-slip design. Easily portable—plug and play for data transfer on smartphones/computers, screen casting with projectors, and photo/video backups from cameras, etc.

[USB 3.2 Port] This M.2 SSD enclosure supports USB 3.2 10Gbps high-speed transfer. Please ensure it is connected to a USB port on your computer that supports the same or higher specification. No additional drivers required. The package includes one 10Gbps USB-C to C cable, thermal silicone pads, a screwdriver, and screws. The SSD enclosure is lightweight and portable, making it an ideal travel companion.

[High-Speed Transfer] Supports UASP, TRIM, and S.M.A.R.T. Theoretical transfer rate: 10Gbps. Measured sustained read speeds exceed 1000+ MB/s. With a 2TB large capacity, fast transfer of large files requires minimal waiting time. Features a professional-grade main controller chip with broad protocol compatibility for more stable data read/write performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This enclosure supports 2230 and 2242 drive lengths only. A 2280 stick is too long to mount, so check your drive's size before ordering.
NVMe only. Thermalright lists M.2 NVMe (PCIe) protocol support for M Key and B&M Key drives, and explicitly notes that B Key interfaces are not compatible.
Yes. Thermalright states the enclosure is quickly recognized when connected to a PS5 or Xbox, making it usable as external game storage over the Type-C connection.
2TB. That ceiling applies across all supported drive sizes, so plan around it if you intend to store large video projects or a big game library.
No. The package includes a 10Gbps USB-C to C cable, thermal silicone pads, a screwdriver, and screws, so everything needed to install a drive is in the box.
Only on ports rated at USB 3.2 Gen 2 or higher. Thermalright advises connecting to a port of the same or better specification, since slower ports will limit throughput.
No drivers are needed. The enclosure is plug-and-play across Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, and Android on devices equipped with a Type-C interface.
