Overview

The TP-Link JetStream T1600G-28TS is a 24-port gigabit smart managed switch built for small and medium-sized business networks that have outgrown unmanaged switches but don't require a full Layer 3 enterprise platform. All 24 RJ45 ports deliver 10/100/1000Mbps speeds with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX, while four dedicated SFP slots provide options for fiber uplinks to core switches or connections to other buildings. Management is handled through a web-based GUI, and both an RJ45 console port and a Micro-USB console port are available for CLI access during setup or troubleshooting.

The T1600G-28TS supports a comprehensive set of L2+ features including 802.1Q VLANs for traffic segmentation, 802.1p QoS for prioritizing latency-sensitive traffic like VoIP, and 802.1X port-based authentication for network access control. Link aggregation via 802.3ad LACP allows you to combine multiple physical links for increased bandwidth and failover between infrastructure devices. Spanning Tree Protocol support (802.1d, 802.1s, 802.1w) ensures loop-free topologies across redundant paths. For businesses looking to step up their network management without a steep learning curve or price tag, this switch hits a practical balance of capability and value.
