Overview

The LG GE24NU40 Super Multi External DVD Rewriter is a versatile optical drive that consolidates CD and DVD reading and writing capabilities into a single external unit. Supporting an extensive list of disc formats — including CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, and DVD-RAM — it handles virtually any optical disc task from burning data archives and creating music CDs to writing dual-layer DVD video projects. The "Super Multi" designation reflects this comprehensive format support, ensuring compatibility with legacy and current disc types alike.

Connected via a USB 2.0 interface, the GE24NU40 offers write speeds up to 24x on compatible media, which is sufficient for most disc-burning workflows. Buffer Under Run error protection is built in to prevent failed burns caused by data stream interruptions, a feature that is especially valuable when multitasking during a write session. The emergency eject mechanism provides a physical failsafe for retrieving discs if software-based ejection fails. While the USB 2.0 connection and lack of Blu-ray support place this drive in a firmly utilitarian category, it remains a practical and reliable solution for anyone who still needs to work with CDs and DVDs on a computer that lacks a built-in optical drive.
