Overview

The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 OC Edition is built on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and packs 8GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit interface running at 8 Gbps. With a factory overclock pushing the boost clock to 1721 MHz in OC Mode, this card delivers strong frame rates at 1080p and capable performance at 1440p. The semi-passive cooling system is a standout feature — the fans completely stop spinning when the GPU is under light load, which not only keeps the system silent during everyday use but also reduces dust buildup on the heatsink and fan blades over time.

Connectivity is generous, with DVI-D Dual Link, two HDMI ports, and two DisplayPort outputs providing plenty of options for multi-monitor setups or VR headsets. NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility ensures tear-free gameplay when paired with a supported monitor, while the card's ASUS Beyond VR Ready certification confirms it meets the performance thresholds for virtual reality applications. Running on a PCI-Express 3.0 interface, the ROG Strix GTX 1070 remains a solid choice for gamers seeking reliable 1080p performance in a well-cooled, feature-rich package.

Key Features

Excellent condition. Very little, if any, dust accumulated in it, because the fans turn themselves off at idle. This also means the fans are in excellent condition.

All original materials included in the box, including the installation disk. Minor damage to the outer box. The inner box is in perfect condition.

I also purchased an Asurion 3 Year PC Peripheral Protection Plan when I originally purchased this video card in February 2017, which is fully transferable.

Pros & Cons

👍 Pros

  • 8GB GDDR5 on a 256-bit memory interface provides strong performance at 1080p and 1440p resolutions
  • Semi-passive fan design stops spinning at idle, resulting in silent operation during light workloads
  • Factory overclocked with selectable OC Mode and Gaming Mode profiles for flexibility
  • Five display outputs including dual HDMI and dual DisplayPort support versatile multi-monitor configurations
  • NVIDIA G-SYNC support eliminates screen tearing without the latency penalty of V-Sync

👎 Cons

  • Based on the older Pascal architecture, which lacks hardware ray tracing and DLSS support found in newer generations
  • 8GB VRAM may become limiting in modern titles at ultra settings and higher resolutions
  • The card's physical size and dual-slot design may not fit in smaller or compact PC cases
  • No USB-C VirtualLink port for streamlined VR headset connectivity
